Rooted Learning For The Whole Child
Our Vision
Under the Oaks Children’s House is a part-time Montessori enrichment and tutoring program for homeschooling families with children ages 4–8, with limited consideration for children turning 4 during the school year. We come alongside your homeschool journey with meaningful Montessori lessons, nature exploration, practical life, creative projects, and time outdoors in a small, mixed-age community.
I created Under the Oaks because I wanted a place where children could slow down, follow their interests, work with their hands, and have the freedom to learn at their own pace. A place where they can become more independent, learn alongside older and younger friends, and discover that they’re capable of more than they may realize.
Growing Through Exploration
Children are naturally curious, and we believe some of the best learning happens outside. Whether they're searching for insects, digging in the garden, climbing trees, creating nature art, or simply asking "why?", every adventure becomes an opportunity to learn.
At Under the Oaks, nature is an extension of our classroom. We spend plenty of time outdoors exploring, creating, and discovering together because childhood is meant to be messy, full of wonder, and connected to the world around us. Our hope is that children leave each day a little dirtier, a little more confident, and excited to see what they'll discover next.
Tending the Garden, Tending the Heart
At Under the Oaks Children's House, gardening is about so much more than growing flowers, herbs, or vegetables. As children plant seeds, water the garden, harvest fresh produce, and care for our chickens, they learn patience, responsibility, and the joy of caring for something beyond themselves.
Children thrive when engaged in real, purposeful work, we invite children to become active caretakers of their environment. Whether tending a garden bed, caring for classroom plants, composting food scraps, or helping maintain our outdoor spaces, children experience the satisfaction and confidence that comes from contributing to a community.
Our hope is that these experiences plant seeds that extend far beyond childhood, encouraging children to become thoughtful, capable individuals who care deeply for their communities and the world they inhabit.
Because when children learn to care for the earth, they also learn to care for one another.
Montessori-based Curriculum
Our program is inspired by a Montessori-based approach that honors children as naturally curious, capable, and excited to learn. Children learn through hands-on materials, meaningful activities, and plenty of time to explore, move, and discover at their own pace.
We use beautiful, purposeful Montessori materials that make learning concrete and engaging. Each material is designed to isolate one skill at a time, giving children the chance to fully explore, repeat, and truly understand what they are doing. This builds confidence, independence, and strong early foundations in math, language, sensorial learning, and practical life skills.
In our space, learning feels calm, joyful, and unhurried. Children are encouraged to choose their work, follow their interests, and grow with gentle guidance and support along the way.
Most of all, our approach supports the Whole Child. Whether indoors or outside, our goal is the same: to give children the time, space, and opportunities to grow into confident, curious learners who genuinely enjoy the process of learning.
